The National Economic Council asked President Prabowo Subianto to make the Makan Bergizi Gratis program more efficient amid pressure on the rupiah and global uncertainty. After a meeting at Istana Merdeka in Jakarta on Tuesday (9/6), DEN member Muhammad Chatib Basri warned that a weaker rupiah could squeeze the middle class through higher prices, making it necessary for the government to maintain public trust with tighter fiscal management, including for MBG. DEN chairman Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan also reported progress on GovTech, which has been tested in 42 regencies/cities. He said linking a single government data system with the Finance Ministry’s National Single Window could broaden the tax base for UMKM and lift the tax ratio from about 9 percent to 12%-13%.
