DEN prepares idle tank conversions to raise Indonesia's reserves

The energy reserve target rises to at least 30 days as DEN reviews private funding options for the buffer-stock plan.

The Dewan Energi Nasional is preparing to use idle tanks to strengthen the national Cadangan Penyangga Energi, as a cheaper option than building new facilities. DEN member Satya Widya Yudha said inactive tanks, including upstream assets from former KKKS that have become state property, are being mapped for conversion into crude oil or fuel storage. The move is aimed at lifting Indonesia's energy reserves from 18-21 days to at least 30 days. At the same time, DEN is reviewing the CPE Perpres to open room for private participation, because the current scheme still relies on the APBN. Separately, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia is also preparing a feasibility study for building oil storage in the KEK Sumatera.
