Dedi Mulyadi: 80,000 West Java residents still lack power

West Java plans to shift budgets and repair infrastructure to give every resident electricity by 2027, Dedi Mulyadi said.

West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi said 80,000 residents in West Java still lacked access to electricity in 2026, even though the province is one of the country’s energy hubs. At the 81st Indonesian Independence Day commemoration at Gedung Sate in Bandung on Monday, Dedi said the number had fallen sharply from more than 500,000 people when he took office in 2025. He called the situation ironic because West Java has PLTA Jatiluhur, Jatigede, Cirata, Saguling and geothermal potential, yet some residents near those areas still live without electricity. The West Java provincial government, along with the West Java DPRD and vertical agencies, will overhaul budget priorities to meet basic needs. Dedi set a goal of gradually resolving the electricity grid crisis and road access to outlying areas such as Sukabumi, Cianjur and Garut by 2027.
