Dasco denies vice presidential bid rumor, links it to wiretap case
The Deputy Speaker of the House said the claim is a diversion from alleged illegal surveillance targeting President and other officials.
Deputy Speaker of the House Sufmi Dasco Ahmad denied reports that he would become a vice presidential candidate. In a post on X that was later reshared on Instagram on Thursday, Dasco called the claim hoaks. He said the rumor was deliberately spread to divert public attention from an alleged illegal wiretapping case targeting President Prabowo Subianto and several other officials and figures. Dasco said the case involves a Polri officer who has been named a suspect. The issue came as discussion of replacing the vice president intensified after calls to impeach Gibran Rakabuming, which were linked to Supreme Court and Constitutional Court rulings on his education documents.
