Darline Graham won the Republican runoff in South Carolina's special Senate race, defeating Rep. Ralph Norman and moving on to the general election for the seat long held by her late brother, Lindsey Graham. With nearly all ballots counted, Graham had 52.5% of the vote, according to CBS News, the BBC's US partner. The runoff followed an earlier primary that narrowed a wider Republican field to Graham and Norman. Norman had aligned with many of Donald Trump's policies in Congress, though he initially backed Nikki Haley in the 2024 Republican presidential primary. During the campaign, Graham pointed to her outsider status but also drew scrutiny after saying national security was not her area of expertise during a debate exchange about Taiwan.
