Cyclospora outbreak tied to lettuce spreads to 9 US states

A multistate cyclospora outbreak linked to shredded iceberg lettuce has expanded to nine states, with Illinois, Kansas, Oklahoma and Pennsylvania newly added to the CDC's list. The other affected states are Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio, West Virginia and Michigan, which has been hit hardest. Federal investigators have focused on recalled lettuce from Taylor Farms de Mexico's facility in Guanajuato, though Mexican authorities said samples of lettuce and water there tested negative. The CDC said 1,947 infected people reported eating at Taco Bell, which removed the product after Taylor Farms' voluntary recall on July 17. Illnesses in the outbreak ran from June 22 through July 20, and no deaths have been reported.
