Croatia detains 2nd Ukrainian suspect in Nord Stream blasts
What's next: German prosecutors are seeking extradition so the suspect can appear before the Federal Court of Justice.
A Ukrainian man suspected of helping sabotage the Nord Stream gas pipelines in 2022 has been placed in pre-trial detention in Croatia while Germany seeks his extradition. German prosecutors identified him only as Vladimir Z. and said he was arrested in Pula on a European warrant. They allege he was a trained scuba diver in a group led by former Ukrainian army officer Serhii K. that planted explosives on Nord Stream 1 and 2 near Bornholm. Serhii K. was charged in July and has denied involvement. German courts say they have jurisdiction because the damaged pipelines terminate in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and the attack affected Germany's energy security.
