Cristiano Ronaldo retires from Portugal after 234 caps
The 41-year-old ends his international career with 146 goals and one Euro title for Portugal.
Cristiano Ronaldo has ended his career with Portugal after 23 years representing his country. In a video on social media on Thursday (5/11), the 41-year-old said it was time to hand the No. 7 shirt to the next generation. Ronaldo closed his spell with 234 appearances and 146 goals, a record described as the men’s all-time mark at international level. His international career began in August 2003 and spanned six World Cups. His final match came on Sept. 24, when Portugal beat Wales 1-0 in the Nations League. The decision came after his relationship with coach Jorge Jesus broke down. Although he has stepped away from the national team, Ronaldo will continue playing at club level with Al-Nassr and is now chasing his 1,000th career goal.
