Crews drain Lincoln Reflecting Pool again after July 4 repairs fail

What's new: The redo follows algae growth, peeling coating and debris from fireworks, pushing the project past Trump's July 4 goal.

Crews began draining the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool again Friday as the Trump administration restarted repairs on the renovated landmark in Washington. The new work comes weeks after the project was finished and after President Donald Trump had targeted completion by July 4 for the nation's 250th birthday celebration. Officials cited algae in the water, peeling on the pool's new blue coating and debris left after the National Mall fireworks display. Court records also describe June vandalism damage to the liner and sealant. Former Olympic canoe racer David Hearn pleaded not guilty Thursday in D.C. Superior Court to a felony property destruction charge, and at least three others face misdemeanor cases tied to removed paint.
