Coventry beats 10-man Sunderland 3-1 to climb out of bottom three

What's new: Sunderland stayed last with five points from nine league games and has one point from five away matches.

Coventry City moved out of the Premier League relegation zone with a 3-1 home win over Sunderland, which finished with 10 men and remained bottom of the table. Tatsuhiro Sakamoto opened the scoring in the 17th minute with his first Premier League goal, and Taiwo Awoniyi added his first league goal for Coventry before halftime. Jack Rudoni made it 3-0 early in the second half. Sunderland pulled one back in the 67th minute when Enzo Le Fée converted a penalty after sending Carl Rushworth the wrong way, but the visitors could not build on it. Omar Alderete was sent off in stoppage time after a second yellow card. The result gave Coventry a needed response after last week's 1-0 home loss to Fulham.
