A 7.4-magnitude earthquake struck western Colombia on Monday, killing at least two people, collapsing at least 20 buildings and forcing evacuations across several cities. The quake's epicenter was near San Jose del Palmar in Choco province, with Colombia's geological service and the U.S. Geological Survey placing it about 96 to 107 kilometers deep. In Cali, Mayor Alejandro Eder said people were trapped and the city requested disaster teams from Bogota and Medellin. Authorities also reported injuries and major damage in Quibdo and building damage in Pereira. Colombia's civil aviation authority suspended flights at six western airports while inspectors assessed facilities. The quake was also felt in Ecuador, Panama and Venezuela, with no tsunami threat reported.
