Cimahi Health Office Warns of ISPA Risk in Dry Season

Cold, dry air at night and dawn can also trigger asthma and bronchitis flare-ups, officials said.

The Cimahi City Health Office is urging residents to watch for extreme temperature changes during the dry season, which can trigger health problems, especially acute respiratory infections (ISPA). According to dr. Lina Mulyani, head of disease prevention and control at the Cimahi City Health Office, the air has lately felt cooler from night through morning, then hotter from noon to late afternoon. The sharp changes make people more vulnerable to blocked noses, itchy throats and coughs that worsen at night. Lina added that very low humidity during this dry season is also worsening the risk of respiratory problems. For residents with a history of asthma and bronchitis, cold and dry air is a major trigger for recurrence.
