Cimahi bolsters creative industry as 67.3% are working age

The city is focusing on animation and digital media through BITC, with 20-30 active studios and a program worth Rp1.2 billion.

The Cimahi city government is strengthening its creative industry ecosystem by focusing on human resources, supported by a large working-age population. Cimahi City Regional Secretary Maria Fitriana said 67.3% of the population, about 390.27 thousand people, are of productive age and are the main capital to drive the creative sector. Since 2009, Cimahi has built a foundation through a regional innovation system, especially for animation and digital media. One pillar is Baros Information Technology and Creative (BITC), inaugurated in 2012 as an incubation center, training facility and co-working space. Cimahi now highlights four leading subsectors: food and beverage, crafts, textiles and textile products, and animation and creative media. The local animation ecosystem has produced 20 to 30 active studios, thousands of works and an economic value of about Rp1.2 billion.
