Christa Pike walks after surviving failed Tennessee execution

What's next: A judge ordered Tennessee to preserve IV lines, syringes and records that could support a lawsuit over the Sept. 30 execution attempt.

Christa Pike, the Tennessee death row inmate who survived a Sept. 30 lethal injection, is now walking with assistance and eating after what her lawyers called a remarkable recovery. Pike, 50, received two doses of pentobarbital and was hospitalized in critical condition after the state failed to carry out the execution. Her lawyers said she has regained some movement in her badly injured arms but remains mentally foggy and is dealing with severe psychological trauma. Judge I'Ashea Myles ordered the state to preserve evidence from the execution chamber, including IV lines, syringes, packaging and records on Pike's condition before, during and after the procedure. Gov. Bill Lee has paused Tennessee executions for the rest of the year.
