Chipotle pulls Minnesota jalapenos as 110 salmonella cases mount

What's new: Minnesota health officials tied 75 of 84 interviewed patients to Chipotle visits, while the FDA traces the source.

Chipotle Mexican Grill removed jalapenos from all of its Minnesota restaurants and other locations that received the same product after linking the peppers to a salmonella outbreak under investigation. The Minnesota Department of Health has identified 110 cases tied to the outbreak. Of 84 people interviewed, 75 said they ate at Chipotle between June 14 and July 14. State officials said evidence suggests the contaminated item was also served at other Mexican-style restaurants, and the Food and Drug Administration is leading a traceback probe. Chipotle said it replaced the jalapenos with supplies from different growers. The company’s shares fell nearly 10% as investors weighed renewed food-safety concerns.
