China explores Tencent AI support for Indonesia's MBG program

The technology is designed to count student attendance daily so MBG kitchens can prepare more accurate, efficient portions.

China's Ambassador to Indonesia Wang Lutong said Chinese business partners, including Tencent, are exploring AI technology support for the implementation of Indonesia's Makan Bergizi Gratis program. After the China-Indonesia Media and Think Tank Forum 2026 in Jakarta on Wednesday, Wang explained that Tencent is developing a tool that automatically detects the number of students present each day at schools. The data is then sent to the Satuan Pelayanan Pemenuhan Gizi so the number of portions cooked and delivered matches daily needs. Wang said the step could help smooth implementation of the priority program of President Prabowo Subianto. Earlier, Ketua Dewan Ekonomi Nasional Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan also urged the use of govtech and AI for monitoring and evaluating MBG and bansos.
