China threatens retaliation after Taiwan opens intel portal

New: Taiwan’s NSB portal invites people in China to send political and security information through a channel it says is secure.

China threatened retaliation against Taiwan after Taiwan’s National Security Bureau opened a website encouraging people in China to submit intelligence information. Chen Binhua, a spokesman for China’s Taiwan Affairs Office, accused Taipei of intelligence theft, infiltration and sabotage that have worsened cross-strait relations. He also warned people, organizations and companies in China to protect security and said those who provide information to Taiwan’s intelligence agencies could be prosecuted under the law. Taiwan launched the portal last week as a secure channel for people in China who it said want to pass along political, security and Beijing government activity information. According to the NSB, every submission will be screened, evaluated and followed up using digital security technology.
