Chiesa opts to stay at Liverpool after goal against Sunderland

Federico Chiesa said he wants to stay at Liverpool and fight for a place under new coach Andoni Iraola. He made the remarks after scoring in a 4-2 exhibition win over Sunderland in Nashville on Sunday. Chiesa said he is happy at Liverpool and sees the new season as a fresh start after limited minutes under Arne Slot. Last season, he made 36 appearances but started only five times, according to The Guardian. Chiesa also said he has not yet had a specific conversation about his future with Iraola; their talks so far have centered on pressing and tactics. Against Sunderland, he was used as a central striker rather than a winger. The 28-year-old still has two years left on his contract and had previously been linked with Juventus and Como.
