Championship 2026/2027 opens Sept. 11 with PSIS vs PSPS
The second-tier league now runs under PT Liga Utama Indonesia, with 20 clubs in two groups and 273 matches.
The 2026/2027 Championship will begin on Sept. 11, 2026, with the opening match between PSIS Semarang and PSPS Pekanbaru in Semarang, Central Java. The decision was approved at the PT Liga Utama Indonesia shareholders meeting in Jakarta. The operator chose the opening game at a premium-standard stadium, citing venue quality and commercial factors. This season features 20 clubs divided into two groups. The champion of each group will be promoted to Super League 2027/2028, while the second-place teams from both groups will enter a promotion playoff at a neutral venue. Republika reported that Championship is now managed by a new legal entity, PT Liga Utama Indonesia, separated from PT Liga Indonesia Baru to make the competition's business operations more independent. The total number of matches next season remains 273.
