Central Java distributes 3.26 million liters of water as drought spreads
The emergency water stock plan was cut from 123 million liters to about 44-46 million liters after higher fuel costs raised tanker distribution expenses.
The Central Java provincial government distributed 3,258,000 liters of clean water through 660 tankers from June 5 to July 14, 2026, for residents affected by drought. The aid reached 30,378 families, or about 81,297 people, in 15 regencies, including Klaten, Pemalang, Banjarnegara, and Cilacap. Data from BPBD Jawa Tengah also show that dozens of areas have declared drought alert status, including Sukoharjo, Demak, Temanggung, Brebes, Kendal, Sragen, Grobogan, Semarang, Wonosobo, Kota Salatiga, and Kota Tegal. BPBD Jawa Tengah head Bergas Catursasi Penanggungan said the water stock prepared for the dry season fell sharply from 123 million liters to about 44-46 million liters after higher fuel prices raised tanker truck distribution costs.
