Celta Vigo opener vs Osasuna moved after fungus damages pitch
What's next: La Liga reset the match for Aug. 27, a date Osasuna attacked as a last-minute scheduling failure.
Celta Vigo's opening game of the 2026-27 La Liga season against Osasuna was postponed after a fungal outbreak left the pitch at Estadio de Balaidos unfit for play. The match had been scheduled for Sunday but was moved to Aug. 27 after a La Liga inspection on Wednesday. Celta said recent weather hurt efforts to restore the field, pointing to a 36C spike in Vigo in late July and continued heat in the following weeks. Osasuna accepted that the surface could not host the game, but criticized the replacement date, saying both clubs had preferred Sept. 24 or 25 during the international break to ease player workload and injury risk.
