CBS fires Scott Pelley as upheaval deepens at '60 Minutes'

What's new: Pelley is the latest in a string of departures after Paramount's sale to Skydance reshaped CBS News leadership.

CBS News terminated longtime correspondent Scott Pelley from "60 Minutes," adding to a fast-moving shakeup at the flagship U.S. news program. Reuters and the BBC reported that Nick Bilton, the show's new executive producer, told Pelley in a June 2 letter that his employment was ended immediately for cause after clashes over the program's direction. The firing followed recent exits that included former executive producer Tanya Simon and correspondents Sharyn Alfonsi and Cecilia Vega. The turmoil comes after Skydance Media acquired Paramount in August and installed Bari Weiss as CBS News editor-in-chief in October, changes that have stirred internal complaints about political pressure and editorial independence at the network.
