Cape Verde hold Uruguay 2-2, leaving Group H wide open
What's next: Uruguay must beat Spain in its final group game, while Cape Verde can reach the last 32 after draws with two former powers.
Cape Verde deepened its breakout World Cup run with a 2-2 draw against Uruguay in Miami, leaving the two-time champions in danger of an early exit from Group H. Kevin Pina put Cape Verde ahead with a long-range free kick, and Helio Varela later equalized after Uruguay had briefly gone in front with two late first-half goals. The result followed Cape Verde's shock draw with Spain in its tournament debut and kept the Blue Sharks firmly in contention for the knockout stage. Uruguay had already failed to beat Saudi Arabia and now faces a must-win match against Spain. Marcelo Bielsa also said defender Ronald Araujo will not return from injury for that game.
