Bulgaria halts new arms supplies to Ukraine under new government

What's new: The shift comes despite a 10-year security pact signed in March covering joint defense production and intelligence sharing.

Bulgaria's new government has stopped plans for any further weapons deliveries to Ukraine, marking a break from the military support Sofia provided in 2024 and 2025. Defense Minister Dimitar Stoyanov said the Bulgarian side does not plan to send more arms and argued the war should be settled through negotiations between Moscow and Kyiv. Bulgaria had previously transferred anti-tank missiles, armored vehicles, mortars, anti-aircraft guns, howitzers and infantry weapons after changing course on aid. The move comes even though Bulgaria and Ukraine signed a 10-year bilateral security cooperation agreement in March that includes joint defense production, intelligence sharing and an energy corridor for up to 10 billion cubic meters of gas a year.
