Bromo fire closes 3 access routes as Blok Bantengan reignites
BPBD Probolinggo remains on full alert after flames were seen again Tuesday morning; the burned area is still being assessed.
A forest fire in Blok Bantengan in Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park has closed three tourist access routes to Mount Bromo and put BPBD Probolinggo on full alert. The TNBTS Center closed the Jemplang and Coban Trisula routes in Kabupaten Malang and the Senduro route in Kabupaten Lumajang starting Monday at 22.00 WIB to support firefighting and protect visitors. Access through Cemoro Lawang in Probolinggo and Wonokitri in Pasuruan remains open, but visitors are allowed only to Lautan Pasir and are barred from heading to Savana. BPBD Probolinggo head Oemar Sjarief said the fire flared up again Tuesday morning. Joint teams from BPBD Jawa Timur, TNI/Polri, volunteers, residents and TNBTS officers are monitoring the area, building firebreaks and standing by at Bukit Sariwani to keep the blaze from spreading into Probolinggo. No casualties have been reported, while the extent of the affected area has not yet been determined.
