Britain and RI expand ties into maritime, chips and green energy

Britain links the partnership to regulatory reform, trade facilitation and training thousands of Indonesian engineers.

Britain is broadening its strategic partnership with Indonesia into maritime, semiconductors, trade, green energy and economic reform. British Ambassador to Indonesia Dominic Jermey in Jakarta on Wednesday (10/6) said a maritime program led by Babcock International is aimed at supporting maritime security, shipbuilding, coastal communities and food security, while creating jobs in Indonesia and Britain. He also cited cooperation between Arm Holdings and Danantara Indonesia on technology licensing and training thousands of engineers in the semiconductor sector. According to Jermey, the strategic partnership agreed by President Prabowo Subianto and Prime Minister Keir Starmer in January 2026 covers four pillars: economic growth, climate-energy-environment, defense-security, and human resource development.
