Brent tops $82 as Trump threat rattles US-Iran peace talks

What's new: Iranian media reported Tehran halted the Switzerland talks, though millions of barrels still moved through Hormuz.

Oil prices climbed Monday after President Donald Trump threatened strikes on Iran if Hezbollah keeps attacking Israel, adding fresh uncertainty to US-Iran talks in Switzerland. Brent crude rose as much as 2.2% to $82.30 a barrel, while West Texas Intermediate traded near $77. Negotiations at Burgenstock began Sunday but hit turbulence after Iranian media said Tehran had halted them following Trump's warning; people familiar with the discussions said the talks were still continuing. Despite Iran's claim that it had closed the Strait of Hormuz again, oil shipments continued over the weekend through the critical waterway, a key route for global crude flows.
