Brazil U-20 semifinal ended after record 53 red cards
What’s next: Mamore advanced to the final after Uberlandia forfeited the second leg because suspensions left Mamore short of players.
A Brazilian under-20 state semifinal in Minas Gerais was abandoned after a brawl led referee Fernando Patrick Drosghic Modesto to issue a record 53 red cards. The first-leg match between Uberlandia and Mamore had already seen three earlier dismissals before chaos erupted after Mamore went 3-1 ahead and player Davi taunted the Uberlandia bench during the celebration. The referee sent off 43 players, eight coaching staff members and two Uberlandia board members, breaking the previous record of 36 set in Argentina in 2011. Police were called to Parque do Sabia Stadium, where reports cited broken doors, windows and other damage. Uberlandia later conceded the second leg, sending Mamore to the final.
