Brazil arrests 3 after 21-year-old dies in 40-meter rope jump fall
What's new: Police pursued a homicide count alleging the men accepted the risk of death when the safety rope was not properly attached.
Brazilian police arrested three men after a 21-year-old woman died during a rope jumping activity in Limeira, in Sao Paulo state, on June 13. Authorities said Maria Eduarda Rodrigues de Freitas fell from a 40-meter platform at Ponte do Esqueleto after safety equipment was not properly attached. Videos circulating online show her being lifted by three people before the release, with bystanders shouting about the rope. She suffered multiple injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics and firefighters. Police told AFP the men were held on suspicion of homicide with dolus eventualis, a charge used when suspects are considered to have accepted the risk of killing someone. Investigators are still determining liability.
