Brazil held 1-1 by Morocco in Group C opener

Both teams opened the 2026 World Cup with one point after Vinicius Junior answered Ismael Saibari's first-half goal.

Brazil failed to start the 2026 World Cup with a win after being held 1-1 by Morocco in the Group C opener at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, United States, on Sunday. Morocco went ahead in the 25th minute through Ismael Saibari, who finished an early Atlas Lions spell of pressure on Alisson Becker's goal. Brazil equalized seven minutes later through Vinicius Junior. The Real Madrid forward scored his 10th international goal in his 50th appearance for Selecao. In the second half, Carlo Ancelotti's side controlled more of the play and added attacking threat with a series of substitutions, but Morocco's defense, led by Achraf Hakimi, held firm under pressure. The result left Brazil and Morocco with one point each from their first match in Group C.
