BPS: Indonesia's poor fall 430,000 to 22.93 million
Rural poverty remains 10.67%, well above urban 6.34%, and the depth of poverty in villages worsened.
Badan Pusat Statistik recorded the number of poor people in Indonesia in March 2026 at 22.93 million, down 430,000 from 23.36 million in September 2025. The national poverty rate also fell from 8.25 percent to 8.07 percent. BPS Deputy for Statistical Balance Sheets and Analysis Edy Mahmud said the downward trend has continued since March 2023. But the regional gap remains wide. The poverty rate in rural areas reached 10.67 percent, higher than the 6.34 percent in urban areas. BPS also recorded that the Poverty Gap Index and Poverty Severity Index improved in cities, but worsened in villages. The national poverty line in March 2026 rose 4.33 percent to Rp669.235 per capita per month, while the average household poverty line reached Rp3.091.866.
