BPS: Indonesian hajj pilgrims to spend Rp4.25 trillion

Badan Pusat Statistik estimates Indonesian hajj pilgrims will spend Rp4.25 trillion out of pocket during the 2026 hajj season. BPS head Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti said Rp3.39 trillion will come from regular hajj pilgrims and Rp857.3 billion from special hajj pilgrims. The largest spending item is souvenirs, totaling Rp1.96 trillion, or 46.1 percent of the total. Pilgrims will also spend Rp743.3 billion on medicines, Rp559.9 billion on DAM, Rp542.6 billion on extra food and drinks, Rp257.4 billion on transportation, and Rp86.2 billion on internet data packages. The figures come from the 2026 Indonesia Hajj Service Satisfaction Survey. BPS said most of the money is spent in Saudi Arabia and helps support the local economy.
