BPKH proposes raising Hajj down payment by Rp10 million to Rp35 million
BPKH wants the increase phased in from 2024-2026 to expand managed funds and boost Hajj benefits.
Badan Pengelola Keuangan Haji has proposed raising the initial Hajj registration deposit from Rp25 million to Rp35 million. Head of the BPKH Executive Board Fadlul Imansyah said the figure is already in the agency's strategic plan and is considered ideal for expanding managed funds so the benefits for pilgrims can rise. He said the increase should begin in 2024 and be phased in through 2026. If it does not proceed, the rupiah value of Hajj fund benefits risks falling short of target. Fadlul also said higher yields in financial markets open better investment opportunities, especially through Surat Berharga Syariah Negara. He added that the size of the initial deposit does not have to be set in a revision to the law because it is determined by an agreement between the government and Komisi VIII DPR RI.
