Borneo Motors cuts jobs in Singapore overhaul at Toyota, Lexus dealer

Borneo Motors has laid off workers in Singapore as part of a restructuring at the longtime distributor of Toyota and Lexus vehicles. The company and parent Inchcape did not disclose how many employees were affected, but union officials said workers were informed on July 30 and that day was also their last working day. The Singapore Manual and Mercantile Workers’ Union said it was notified beforehand and worked with the company on severance terms. Under the collective agreement, affected staff are entitled to two months’ notice or pay in lieu, while retrenchment benefits can reach one month of basic salary for each year of service, capped at 25 years. The Manpower Ministry said a task force is helping with job matching and career coaching.
