BNPB speeds Sumatera disaster housing, allocates Rp100,1 trillion
Temporary housing is 99,9 percent complete, while about 900 of a 39,000-unit permanent housing target are now under construction.
BNPB is accelerating post-disaster recovery in Sumatera, shifting its focus from temporary shelter to permanent housing. BNPB head Suharyanto said construction of temporary housing had reached 99,9 percent of a target of more than 20.000 units, with the remaining work mainly for affected residents who do not have rights to land and buildings or are still renting. About 900 self-built permanent homes are now under construction from a target of 39.000 units in Aceh, Sumatera Utara, and Sumatera Barat. The central government and DPR have also approved Rp100,1 trillion in recovery funds for 2026-2028, excluding BNPB's Disaster Ready Fund of about Rp4 trillion. The budget is allocated for housing rehabilitation, infrastructure repairs, economic recovery, mitigation, and environmental restoration.
