BMKG warns of heavy rain in Sumut, Kalteng, Sulbar

In Sumatera Utara, light to very heavy rain may continue for a week, raising the risk of floods and landslides.

BMKG warned of heavy to very heavy rain in Sumatera Utara, Kalimantan Tengah and Sulawesi Barat, while most of Indonesia is forecast to see light rain on Sunday. In Sumatera Utara, rain is expected to continue for a week and could trigger floods and landslides. Nensy Nindy, a forecaster at Balai BMKG Wilayah I, said the weather is influenced by atmospheric waves, a cyclonic circulation in the Indian Ocean west of Sumatera, and wind shear that increases moisture supply and cloud formation. BMKG listed areas that need to watch for moderate to very heavy rain accompanied by lightning and strong winds, including Medan, Binjai, Deli Serdang, Karo, Langkat, Labuhanbatu, Nias, Simalungun and Toba.
