Bloomberg lets Singapore ministers' S$883,000 defamation ruling stand

Bloomberg and reporter Low De Wei did not appeal a Singapore High Court ruling that found they defamed Senior Minister K. Shanmugam and Trade and Industry Minister Tan See Leng in a December 2024 article about high-end home deals. The appeal deadline passed on Aug. 27. In July, the court ordered Bloomberg and Low to pay S$230,000 to each minister, and later ordered them to cover legal costs and disbursements. The article linked the ministers' Good Class Bungalow transactions to secrecy and money laundering concerns. Justice Audrey Lim ruled that reading the piece as a whole created a defamatory impression and found malice on the defendants' part.
