Bio Farma launches locally made Bio-TCV typhoid vaccine
BPOM says Bio-TCV may help curb antimicrobial resistance; 208.235 doses had been produced by July 13, 2026.
PT Bio Farma has launched Bio-TCV, a domestically produced typhoid conjugate vaccine designed to prevent typhoid fever caused by Salmonella typhi infection. The vaccine has received approval from Badan Pengawas Obat dan Makanan and can be given from age six months to adults. Bio-TCV was developed through a long collaboration between Bio Farma and the International Vaccine Institute since 2010, followed by technology transfer in 2013 and joint clinical trials with the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Indonesia. BPOM head Taruna Ikrar said the vaccine is also important for reducing excessive antibiotic use amid high typhoid case numbers. Data from the Ministry of Health's SKDR recorded 914 ribu suspected typhoid cases throughout 2025, while through week 16 of 2026 there were 266.869 cases. According to Bio Farma data as of July 13, 2026, total production reached 208.235 doses and 30.875 doses had been distributed.
