Bezos predicts AI will fuel labor shortages, not job losses

What's new: He tied the claim to his startup Prometheus as employers reported 97,006 May job cuts, with AI linked to 40%.

Jeff Bezos used the VivaTech conference in Paris to argue that artificial intelligence will increase demand for workers rather than replace them. Bezos said AI would remove barriers that hold people back and eventually create a labor shortage. He made the case while discussing Prometheus, his new AI venture focused on speeding up physical manufacturing. The remarks come as companies worldwide keep cutting staff after heavy AI investment. Challenger, Gray and Christmas reported 97,006 US job cuts in May, with AI tied to 40% of them. Bezos also revisited his space ambitions, saying the Moon should become a permanent base for human expansion, while Blue Origin CEO Dave Limp said work has started to rebuild the firm's Florida launch pad after a May explosion.
