Customs seizes 8.94 million illegal cigarettes in Jakarta-Banten
The haul protected Rp8,66 miliar in state revenue, and one suspect has been named in the case.
Jakarta Customs, along with the Jakarta Customs regional office and the Banten Customs regional office, seized 8,944,800 illegal cigarettes without excise seals in an operation on the Jakarta Outer Ring Road toll road KM 35,8 and a warehouse in Taktakan, Serang City, Banten. The value of the goods is estimated at Rp13,28 miliar, while the potential state revenue saved reached Rp8,66 miliar. Officers first found 8,000,800 SS brand cigarettes in a truck on 6 June, then expanded the case to a warehouse on Jalan Kampung Kemeranggen on 7 June and found an additional 944,000 SS brand cigarettes and 41. Truck driver identified as PY and shipment supervisor YK were also detained. Based on the investigation, the shipment was said to be controlled by HH from Pamekasan, while the goods in the warehouse were said to belong to AS.
