Fuel price hike could lift Jakarta public transit use: Pramono
The city says public transit connectivity has reached 93%, but regular ridership remains below 30%.
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung said the increase in non-subsidized fuel prices could push more residents to switch to public transportation in Jakarta. He said public transit connectivity in the capital has now reached 93%, making the chance of people moving away from private vehicles even greater. Even so, regular public transit use remains below 30%. The DKI Jakarta administration is targeting ridership growth of 5-10 percent a year to ease congestion and pollution. At present, 15 passenger groups ride free, while the network relies on Transjakarta, MRT Jakarta, LRT Jakarta, Transjabodetabek, and JakLingko. Pramono also referred to the requirement for DKI ASN to use public transportation every Wednesday under Governor Instruction Number 6 of 2025.
