Basarnas Makassar evacuated Nguyen, a 24-year-old Vietnamese crew member, from a ship sailing in Kalukuang waters, Pangkep Regency, South Sulawesi, after he suffered severe stomach pain and a high fever. The request for help was received Saturday night from the ship's correspondent while the vessel was on route from Japan to Australia. According to Andi Sultan of Basarnas Makassar, the ship was about 110 nautical miles from Soekarno-Hatta Pier in Makassar, prompting KN SAR Kamajaya to be deployed to intercept it at sea. The evacuation took place safely early Sunday. After being transferred to KN SAR Kamajaya and given initial medical treatment, the victim was taken to Soekarno-Hatta Pier and then referred by ambulance to Rumah Sakit Siloam in Makassar.
