Bareskrim Arrests 2 Indian Nationals in Illegal Gold Syndicate

Police seized 2 kg of gold bars, 18 kg of processed gold residue and about Rp1,1 miliar in cash.

Bareskrim Polri arrested two Indian nationals suspected of involvement in an international syndicate smuggling illegal gold to Dubai. The two were detained at separate apartments in North Jakarta in the early hours of Sunday, August 16. Brigjen Moh Irhamni, director of special criminal crimes at Bareskrim Polri, said the suspects hid the gold inside modified clothing to make it easier to carry abroad. During searches, investigators seized 2 kilograms of gold bars, 18 kilograms of gold-processing residue, about Rp1,1 miliar in cash, a laptop, cellphones and the two suspects' passports. Bareskrim is still hunting other members of the network and will coordinate with the Indian Embassy on further legal steps, including detention in Indonesia or deportation.
