Barantin and Australia train quarantine labs to boost animal disease detection

Direct facility assessments will map capacity gaps and set priorities for the next round of lab strengthening.

Badan Karantina Indonesia partnered with Australian Centre for Disease Preparedness (ACDP) Australia to strengthen quarantine laboratory capacity in animal disease surveillance. Through Karantina Uji Standar, Barantin held Laboratory Mapping Tool (LMT) and Proficiency Test Refresher training on 2-5 Juni 2026. The program ran through cooperation with Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry Australia under the ACDP Regional Emerging Disease Support scheme. Kepala Karantina Uji Standar Barantin Risma J.P. Silitonga said LMT is used to assess laboratory capacity comprehensively, from infrastructure, equipment, materials and reagents, to quality assurance, biosafety management, waste, and K3. The ACDP team also reviewed laboratory facilities using a semi-quantitative approach to identify areas that still need improvement.
