Bandung pushes campuses, prisons, industry to train inmates

At Bandung Women's Prison, training turns household plastic waste into marketable products, with officials seeking lasting market access.

Chair of Commission I of the Bandung City DPRD, Radea Respati Paramudhita, urged collaboration among universities, local governments, correctional institutions, businesses and the public to strengthen inmate empowerment programs. He delivered the call during a community service event by the Faculty of Economics and Business at Universitas Widyatama at Lapas Perempuan Kelas IIA Bandung on 18 August 2026. The ecopreneurship program trains inmates to process household plastic waste into products with practical use and economic value. Radea said the training should not stop at production, but must be followed by mentoring, promotion and market access. In Medan, Kemnaker also highlighted a similar model through competency-based training at BBPVP involving local governments, industry and educational institutions.
