Prabowo launches 100 GWp solar power program in Bali

The government is targeting 30 GWp installed by 2026 and retiring 13 GW of diesel plants, with annual power savings estimated at Rp73,9 trillion.

President Prabowo Subianto launched a 100 GWp solar power generation program and broke ground for the project at Monumen Operasi Lintas Laut Jawa Bali in Gilimanuk, Jembrana, Bali, on Tuesday. The program is part of the national priority cluster for energy and water self-sufficiency. The government aims to complete construction of the 100 GWp project by 2029, although Prabowo in his speech also pushed for the target to be reached in three years. In 2026, the government is targeting 30 GWp of solar power while shutting down 13 GW of diesel-fired power plants. As of April 2026, Indonesia's installed solar capacity was only about 1,5 GWp, far below the 3.294 GWp potential. The government estimates the program could save Rp73,9 trillion in electricity costs per year and drive investment in power plants, batteries, grids and the domestic solar PV industry.
