Bahlil halts Indonesia's electricity export plan, Singapore waits
As a result, cross-border green power price talks are stalled while supply is prioritized for domestic needs.
Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia said Indonesia cannot export electricity in the near term because domestic demand still must be met. Speaking at the Minerba Convex 2026 in Jakarta on Monday, Bahlil also warned the Badan Pengelola Investasi Daya Anagata Nusantara or BPI Danantara not to be swayed by lobbying over electricity exports. He said export approvals rest with the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry, not Danantara. The remarks made clear that cross-border electricity trade plans, including to Singapore, cannot move ahead even though a previous memorandum of understanding is in place. The government is holding off on exports while ensuring national power needs remain secure and Indonesia's economic terms are met.
