Bahamas grounds Flamingo Air after 10 die in Cessna 402 crash

What's new: Officials suspended the airline after a second safety incident the same day, when another plane returned to Nassau and caught fire after landing.

The Bahamas suspended Flamingo Air after one of its Cessna 402 planes crashed on North Andros on Friday, killing all 10 people aboard. The aircraft had left Lynden Pindling International Airport near Nassau for San Andros Airport and went down in bushes shortly before landing, the Bahamian Aircraft Accident Investigation Authority said. Prime Minister Philip Davis said the crash turned the country's 53rd Independence Day into a day of mourning. Authorities said there were nine passengers and one pilot on board. The Ministry of Transport, and separately the Ministry of Aviation in other reports, described the grounding as a precautionary safety step. Officials also cited another Friday incident in which a Flamingo Air flight returned to Nassau and caught fire after passengers got off.
