Smoke blankets Terminal 2D Soetta, traced to ground handling vehicle
An emergency alarm sounded briefly, but the affected area was restored in 5-10 minutes and flights continued normally.
Smoke briefly blanketed the Terminal 2D area of Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Tangerang on Saturday and triggered an emergency alarm. Airport operator said the source was one of the operational vehicles belonging to ground handling that suffered a technical malfunction in the makeup baggage area. Airport Rescue and Fire Fighting units, engineering teams and operations staff secured the site, addressed the source of the problem and moved the vehicle to an open area so the smoke could dissipate quickly. According to Yudistiawan, the affected area returned to normal about 5 to 10 minutes after the report was received. The airport also adjusted airflow and swept the area. Flight operations and passenger services at Terminal 2 continued safely, orderly and under control, while further evaluation was carried out with ground handling.
