Arizona deputies release 2 Nancy Guthrie ransom notes in kidnap case

Arizona authorities released two ransom notes tied to the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of “Today” host Savannah Guthrie, hoping the writing style helps identify whoever sent them. The first note, sent Feb. 2 to a Tucson television station, claimed Guthrie was alive and demanded $4 million in cryptocurrency, threatening to kill her if the money was not paid. A second note, sent Feb. 6, claimed she died shortly after the kidnapping and said she was “buried in nature now.” The Pima County Sheriff’s Department said the notes contain distinctive word choices and patterns that someone familiar with the writer may recognize. Guthrie disappeared from her home outside Tucson on Feb. 1.
